In Memoriam

It is with a heavy heart that the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department announces the passing of Life Member Roger Wayne Copsey. Wayne passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Wayne is survived by his wife Judy Copsey and daughters Amy Copsey and Jenny Connelly. Wayne joined the department in July of 1968 and was an active member until his death. Wayne was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed.

We are sad to report that we have lost a stalwart and dedicated Rotarian. Past President of the Rotary Club of Lexington Park, William “Bill” C. Moody, passed away peacefully on Jan 3, 2021. He arrived in St. Mary’s County as the Boeing lead for F/A-18 flutter testing. An aeronautical engineer, Bill knew well how to tame the forces that can rip an airplane apart, but he was at heart a gentle person. His managerial excellence is hallmarked by the enduring philanthropic programs he initiated. His love of the culinary arts made him a natural lead for the U.S. National Oyster Festival’s annual Oyster Cook-Off. He also relished and dignified the role of “King Oyster”. His well-followed “Bottom Feeder” blog on food was factual, never hurtful and always cleverly written. His humility, compassion and patience in serving Rotary is unforgettable. He was a true Renaissance man.

We mourn the passing of a four time Woman’s Oyster Shucking Champion. Lisa Light Bellamy won this distinction in 1998, 2000, 2003, and 2014. When not shucking oysters, she was a licensed practical nurse.
